Within my paintings I try to find a balance between nature and mankind. At this time there’s no balance between those two in the real world. In the last half-billion years, life on Earth has been nearly wiped out five times – by such things as climate change, an intense ice age, volcanoes, and an asteroid that smashed into the Gulf of Mexico 65 million years ago, which wiped the dinosaurs and a bunch of other species from the planet.
Today, many scientists think the evidence indicates a sixth mass extinction is under way. The blame for this one, perhaps the fastest in Earth’s history, falls firmly on the shoulders of humans. By the year 2100, human activities such as pollution, land clearing, and overfishing may drive more than half of the world’s marine and land species to extinction.
We are with too many people on this earth and we consume way too much. When a different species would have this impact on the Earth, we had already taken action. Now we are the problem, which is a lot harder.
You can’t find any other animal than humans in my paintings anymore.
